Why I built Guitar With Bruno — and the one thing that changed how I teach.
I wanted to play my favourite songs. Nobody showed me how to get there fast.
When I started learning guitar, I did what most beginners do. I watched random YouTube videos, tried to learn scales I didn’t understand, and worked through chord exercises that felt completely disconnected from the music I actually loved.
Weeks went by. I still couldn’t play a single song I recognised.
Then something clicked. I stopped trying to learn guitar “properly” and started working backwards from the songs I wanted to play. I figured out which chords came up again and again across dozens of songs. I learned those chords first. I practised switching between them until it felt natural.
Within a few weeks I was playing songs I’d been listening to my whole life. Not perfectly — but recognisably. And that feeling of playing a song you love, even imperfectly, is what keeps you going.
That’s the entire philosophy behind Guitar With Bruno.
